Inactivity and Obesity Essay
Review the article ââ¬Å"Physical activity and sedentary activity patterns among children and adolescents: A latent class analysis approachâ⬠for this assignment. As individuals and families spend more time in front of televisions, playing video games, surfing the internet, etc., incidence and prevalence rates of overweight and obese people in throughout the world increase. Based on the article, describe family, community, and school level strategies you would use in planning an obesity prevention program. The following items in particular will be assessed: 1. Identify two specific strategies (family, community, or school level) you would use to plan an obesity prevention program. Include evidence-based information as to why you believe these strategies will be the best ones to use. 2. In your opinion, when should obesity prevention start? What should be the ideal age to start obesity prevention, knowing that lifestyle has a great impact on whether individuals will become obese? 3. Provide empirical evidence to support your position as to when obesity prevention should start. Make sure to cite your sources. Introduction Studies of the health behavior of healthy individuals and families are closely correlated since without the support of a family, an individual would not prosper in healthy behaviors. This example hit close to home since there was someone at home always trying to gear my brother, sister, and myself in the right way. This might not be the case for other families and they might have different types of issues that are involved in the studies of health behavior of individuals and families. Human behavior plays a central role in the maintenance of health and the prevention of disease. Issues Involved Some of the issues involved in the studies of the health behavior of healthy individuals and families are the different strategies for establishing healthy eating habits in children and adolescents might be quite ineffective for changing maladaptive eating behaviors. This seems to be a major issue with families of all types of financial background. The majority of individuals that lack the monetary resource to buy healthier food choices seem to be at riskiest end. Also, maintaining a particular behavior over time might require different strategies than will establishing behavior. Studies Accomplished/Reasons they are Important Studies can be accomplished through different age groups and addressing certain behaviors cues associated with healthy families and individuals. For example, one might ask a teenage group if they have ever tried smoking or drinking. From this study, they can find out information concerning the individual behavior and why it is not conducive to healthy family behaviors. Two examples of studies accomplished from the reading are classical conditioning and operant-conditioning which each has its own way of learning behaviors. For example, classical conditioning modifies behavior by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditioned stimulus that elicits the desired response. This type of learning behavior is important it allows the studies to see what mechanisms triggers different people to behave a certain way. One of the most famous classical conditioning was taught in a previous class that mentioned the salivation of dog in response to a bell being rung. The reason behind this was that every time individual brought in food for the dog, they would ring a bell. Later, they found out that just the ringing alone would set of excitement in the dog. This is important because we find out what triggers an individualââ¬â¢s happiness and with little help, their behavior can be geared towards a healthier one. In individuals, if someone is praised on how well they look and that they are maintaining their bodies well, the compliments alone can trigger an individual to want more praises, thus maintaining a great physique. The second type of study conducted was the operant-conditioning which builds on classical conditioning and focuses on the hypothesis that the frequency of a behavior is determined by its consequences. One example would be that of rewards for positive behavior as well as decreasing behavior from punishment. If an individual, gets praises for cleaning their room and is told that if they discontinue cleaning their room, they will make their parents disappointed, that individual might not want the negative responses thus making them decrease their negative behaviors. Contribution to Existing Knowledge These studies contribute to the existing knowledge by showing us that health behaviors can be changed by the way we treat each other. Also, with the studies, we are able to see how an individualââ¬â¢s health behavior can be controlled by praises and can also eliminate negative behavior by adding negative consequences.
Common Ion Effect in Equilibrium
Dissolution and precipitation reactions are very important chemical reactions because it is applied to many aspects of the industries in medicine, food, water etc. The objectives of this laboratory experiment is to become familiar with dissolution and precipitation equilibria, develop a lab technique suitable for the determination of the solubility for a sparingly soluble salt, Ba(NO3)2 (s) at room temperature and measure the common ion effect in solubility of Ba(NO3)2 (s) in an acidic solution, HNO3 (aq). Procedure: In this lab, the evaporation technique was used to determine the solubility of the salt at room temperature in water. First a 250ml beaker was weighed and the mass was recorded. Then 5. 0g of barium nitrate was weighed into the beaker. Next, 50ml of distilled water was added to the beaker with the barium nitrate sample. The sample was mixed for ten minutes using the magnetic stirrer. Afterwards, as much as possible of the barium nitrate solution was decanted without losing the solid barium nitrate. To get rid of the excess water, the beaker placed onto a hot plate to evaporate the remaining water I the beaker. One the sample was dry, the mass of the beaker with the dry barium nitrate was weighed, and the mass of the barium nitrate dissolved was calculated. This procedure was repeated for the barium nitrate in acidic solution, HNO3(aq). All data was recorded and the mass of barium nitrated dissolved in acid was calculated. Results/Discussion: From the evaporation technique, 4. 39g of barium nitrate dissolved in water and 2. 4g of barium nitrate dissolved in the acid. From that the concentration of barium nitrate in its saturated solution in water was 0. 336mol/L and 0. 179mol/L in HNO3. The concentration of Ba2+(aq) ions in saturated solution is the same as the concentration of the saturated barium nitrate solution by dissociation of barium nitrate ions into one mole of Ba2+ (aq) for every one mole of Ba(NO3)2(s). The NO3- concentration however is double the concentration of barium nitrate due to the dissociation of 2 moles of NO3- for every one mole of Ba(NO3)2(s) plus the concentration ofà NO3- due to the dissociation of HNO3(aq). This came out to be 0. 672mol/L in water and 0. 858mol/L in nitric acid. The solubility of barium nitrate in water was calculated to be 87. 8g/L and 46. 8g/L in HNO3 acid. The molar solubility of the barium nitrate was by definition the same as the concentration of barium nitrate in its saturated solution which was 0. 336mol/L solubility in water and 0. 179mol/L for the solubility in acid. The solubility product constant for barium nitrate in water was calculated using the experimental data to be 0. 52 in water and 0. 132 in HNO3 acid. From the results, it can be seen that the concentration of dissolved barium nitrate in water is more that the concentration of dissolved barium nitrate in nitric acid. And from that it is also seen that the solubility constant of barium nitrate in water is also more than the solubility constant of barium nitrate in nitric acid. These results prove that the common ion effect had decreased the solubility of barium nitrate. The presence of NO3- ions in nitric acid and in barium nitrate caused the common ion effect because even before the barium nitrate dissolution in nitric acid, it already has the initial concentration of NO3- ions produced by nitric acid dissociation. The deviation of experimental values for solubility of barium nitrate in water and in nitric acid was 44. 7% and Ksp deviation was 13. 2%. This is correct because the solubility of barium nitrate in water is supposed to be greater than the solubility in nitric acid. Conclusion:à From the experiment, it can be seen that the solubility of barium nitrate in water is greater than the solubility of barium nitrate in nitric acid. This is due to the common ion, NO3-, in barium nitrate and nitric acid. The acid dissociation yielded a concentration of this ion already, so the dissociation of this ion from barium nitrate is an additional concentration of the ion. This is called the common ion effect. The experiment took the evaporation technique approach, but there are other ways to carry out this experiment to determine the solubility of barium nitrate. One of such was is by using a specific amount of barium nitrate and dissolving it slowly in water until precipitation occurs. From that the amount that was dissolved will be known by taking the mass of the remaining amount of barium nitrate. This procedure was carried out as well during the lab experiment to test the experimentââ¬â¢s accuracy. From the results, it showed that more barium nitrate was dissolved using the evaporation technique. This is because in the alternate technique, it is hard to determine when the salt begins to precipitate; therefore it is not as accurate as the evaporation technique.

The Death Penalty and Juveniles.
The Death Penalty and Juveniles. The Death Penalty and JuvenilesThe death penalty is an extremely heated debate, and many people are very emotional when taking about the issue. Organizations have been formed that support both sides of the argument and have tried over the years, through lobbyists, to sway the opinions of congressional leaders to take their side on the issue. Even more heated than the debate of the conventional use of the death penalty is the use of the death penalty on juveniles. Many think that juveniles possess the mental capacity to knowingly commit a crime and know the possible consequences of the crime. Then there are the few that think that the legal system needs to take pity on juveniles because they are too young to understand the consequences. Juveniles should not be spared the death penalty because they possess the mental capacity to commit the odious crimes that adults also commit and should be treated with the same consequences.Death-penaltySome people think the death penalty is too high a price to pay for a juvenile who is just going through adolescence and who does not have the full mental capacity required to understand the punishment associated with committing a crime. Anti-death penalty types think that the death penalty is too cruel and inhumane a punishment for a juvenile that has committed a very cruel and inhumane crime, like murder, to get on death row in the first place. They do not think that these "children" should be held accountable for acts they apparently do not fully understand they are committing. These people think that if a judge sentences a juvenile to the death penalty then the judge is essentially killing the future of America, but if the future of America is committing crimes heinous enough to warrant the death penalty, then...

BBNIque
BBNIque A Case Study by Benjamin MorrillProfessor Don JollyInternational Marketing IBUS13-353February 14, 2014Over a month ago now, I arrived in Australia and have since been exposed to numerous brand names and companies that do not exist, or at least very unfamiliar, within the United States. However, in the globalized marketplace we live in today it is rare to see new innovative products that don't already exist everywhere else in the world. The most brilliant and innovative brand I have yet to come across is Australia's BBQnique. As far as products within Barbeque and Grilling industry go, there is nothing else like a BBQnique grill available to consumers. When I first saw the grill being used by a party of about six people at a local bar, I was amazed at how genius and cool it was. It is one of those products that make you say, "Now why didn't I think of that?" The BBQnique grill is a million dollar idea and I believe this "start-up" business could potentially have tremendous success in the future.Perhaps, I could help bring the marketing skills needed by this family business to make it more than just a million dollar idea, but a reality. BBQnique was founded by Steve Zagar, a former opal miner in the Australian outback, who had a revolutionary new design for the barbeque grill. During his a time in Australian outback, his most enjoyable experiences were at mealtimes when all the miners would sit around a campfire, tell jokes and stories, and cook food on a hot plate set over the fire. Once he returned home he realized traditional Aussie barbecues were just not as fun as the barbeques he used to have out in the outback. That is when he decided to design the BBQnique grill. In the simplest of terms, it is just a circular table with a built in grill right in the center so families and friends can socialize with one another while they cook their food. The cook will not be left and it ensures that barbequing will not be a chore, but rather hours of entertainment. Howev er, some argue BBQnique has too much of a niche market and cannot compete with the cheaper prices set by competitors. I argue there are many reasons to support BBQnique could still have major success in this industry despite the issues they currently face.Founded in 2008, BBqnique is an Australian family owned company who take pride in every product they make. Despite registered designs in the US and Europe, BBQnique continues to market and sell primarily within the borders of Australia. The Barbeque and Grilling industry is very competitive and is denominated by large corporations such as Weber-Stephen Products, AB Electrolux, and Middlebury. According to IBISWorld, the grilling industry was hampered in the five years before 2013 mainly due to the recession. The recession significantly slowed demand for high-end grills, such as BBQnique, in favor for cheaper grills. However, from now until 2018 IBISWorld estimates the barbecue and grilling industry revenues will steadily increase. Considerable industry growth is expected as consumer incomes rise and private spending on home improvements also increase. According to Barbeques Galore, an Australian chain of retail stores specializing in barbecue grills and accessories, this past summer sales of barbeques had risen 20 percent from the previous summer. However, sales of international companies like United States manufactured Weber-Stephen Products are starting to dominate the Australian grill market. The Weber-Stephen Company now sells their grills in 30 different countries, and is having major success in many of these countries. These "big" businesses make it tough on small businesses like BBQnique to not only survive, but have success. According to theaustralian.com.au, a recent article published on January 14th of 2014 stated that sales of US-manufactured Weber barbeques in Australia increased an estimated 60 percent this past summer. Assuming BBQnique has the resources and capabilities to market their product internationally, I think it would in their best interest to start distributing their products in international markets. With barbequing rapidly becoming a globalized market, if BBQnique does not expand into larger markets they will not survive. BBQnique sold less than seventy units in 2012; however, they have been increasing yearly sales each year since. There are many market issues that are impacting the sales of BBQnique grills. A current trend in the Australian barbeque market is the revival of charcoal cooking being preferred by the consumers over gas and electric cooking methods. More and more people are buying grills that use traditional charcoal because they cook meat with a smoky flavor and a caramelized exterior that tastes superior to meats being cooked over gas or electric grills. Barbecue Galore's marketing manager David Campbell said quote, "We're seeing more customers who are willing to experiment. They're starting to realise the flavours and results are better with cha rcoal than gas." This market change is undoubtedly going hurt the BBQnique Company's sales. BBQnique designed their grills using gas tanks with convenience and simplicity in mind. Using the latest technology in the grilling industry, most BBQnique grills feature just one control valve, one ignitor, and one burner. Unfortunately, BBQnique may quickly learn that having the most advanced technology doesn't always pay off. In the Australian barbecue and grilling market, sometimes nothing beats the traditional ways of doing things as consumers are no longer quickly purchasing gas grills without at least considering the benefits of charcoal. However, there are many positive market characteristics within Australia that are having a direct impact on the increasing success of BBQnique. Most obviously, Australia's moderate climate allows BBQnique to sell their grills year round because there is always a demand. Also, there is a long tradition of barbecuing in Australia and is a significant pa rt of one's lifestyle to many Australians. For these reasons, consumers will be more likely to purchase high-end relatively expensive BBQnique grills in the Australian market than many other international markets. There are international markets that I believe BBQnique should focus on if they decide to expand globally. As an American consumer, I believe that BBQnique would increase revenues significantly by selling their unique grills in the United States for a variety of reasons. Barbecuing is a major aspect of the American lifestyle and the North American barbecuing industry continues to grow every year. According to the Hearth, Patio Barbecue Association, a study done in 2013 showed eighty-six percent of American households own some sort of grill. Also, gas grills continue to be the most purchased grill among American consumers. A dominating sixty-seven percent of American households that own a grill own a gas grill. That is a rise of four percent from 2012 when sixty-three perce nt of households that owned a grill was gas. This trend is great news for a company like BBQnique who only sells gas grills at the moment. Another current consumer trend in the American market is the demand for new accessories and innovative ways to make the cooking experience easy and fun. In my own personal opinion, BBQnique is the most innovative and fun idea the industry has seen in years. There is nothing like the BBQnique grill in the relatively large American marketplace and I strongly believe that consumers in America will go out of their way to purchase a one. However, there are some aspects of the American market that would not be so appealing to the BBQnique Company. Most significantly, only sixty-two percent of Americans who own grill use it year round. Much of the United States does not have a climate suitable for year round barbecuing and grilling. However, many Southern states do have a climate suitable for year round sales, so the Southern region of the United States should be focused on initially.Ultimately, America is just one of many potential international markets BBQnique should considering entering. I believe the most vital skill I can bring to this family business is my market research abilities. My ultimate goal in life is to land a market researching career somewhere because that is what I find most interesting and enjoyable. Through studying marketing research and statistical analysis, I would like to think my math and analytical skills are elite. The BBQnique company has a great product and is already successful within the Australian market in its short life. I think through proper research and methodological decision making, BBQnique can reach even more demanding markets and eventually become one of the most successful brands in the barbecue and grilling industry. Within the next year, my goal would be determine customer satisfaction with the brand, and also fully enter an international market whether it is the United States or some where else. Within the next three years, my goal would be to increase customer satisfaction by at least ten percent, increase sales by thirty percent, and increase brand awareness by fifty percent. Within the next five years, my goal would be to have BBQnique being sold in every major retailer within our market and reach five percent of the market share of the barbecue industry. Within the next fifteen years, my goal would be to have BBQnique be one of the most profitable and successful companies in the barbecue industry. In order to make my dream of working for this company and becoming a millionaire a reality, certain professional development steps need to be taken. It is important that I continue to soak in knowledge about successful marketing through obtaining my degree with high distinction. I should explore options and opportunities that will increase my skills and experience, further my education and training, expand my business network and relationships, increase communicatio n and public speaking skills, and ultimately transform myself into a marketing research superstar. I should make sure I stay up to date on market trends and be sure to stay informed on the BBQnique business. Upon graduation, I plan on contacting Steve Zagar, the founder and owner of BBQnique, and provide my services to the company. Hopefully, the rest will be history.

Demonstrative Adjectives in Spanish
Demonstrative Adjectives in Spanish Demonstrative adjectives are those adjectives whose function is to point at something. In English, the singular demonstrative adjectives are this and that, while theirà plurals are these and those, respectively. (Some grammarians refer to them as demonstrative determiners.) Key Takeaways: Spanish Demonstrative Adjectives The demonstrative adjectives or determiners of Spanish - este, ese, and aquel along with their plural and feminine forms - are used in much the same was as this, that, these, and those are used as adjectives or determiners in English. Both ese and aquel are rough equivalents of that. Aquel is used in referring to entities that are further away in time, distance, or emotional sentiment than entities that use ese. When demonstratives are used with items in a series, they typically are used for each item, unlike in English. Unlike English, Spanish has three sets of demonstrative adjectives, which vary by number and gender, so there are 12 in all: singular masculineeste (this)ese (that)aquel (that)plural masculineestos (these)esos (those)aquellos (those)singular feminineesta (this)esa (that)aquella (that)plural feminineestas (these)esas (those)aquellas (those) Note that the masculine singular forms dont end in -o. Where To Place Demonstrative Adjectives The demonstrative adjectives typically are placed before the nouns they modify. They must match the noun in both number and gender. A few examples: Me gusta este perro. (I like this dog.)Prefiero estas computadoras. (I prefer these computers.)Voy a comprar ese coche. (Im going to buy that car.)Me gustan aquellas casas. (I like those houses.) Ese or Aquel? Although ese and aquel and their related forms can be translated as that or those, there are distinctions in meaning. Ese and its related forms are more common, and youre generally safe to use them when in English youd use that or those. However, aquel and its related forms refer to something thats farther away in terms of distance, emotion, or time. Although ese and its forms can be used for an object near the speaker or listener, aquel cannot. The distinction, if not made clear by context, can be translated in various ways, as these examples indicate: Me gustan esos perros. (I like those dogs.)Me gustan aquellos perros. (I like those dogs over there.)No quiero esa casa. Quiero aquella casa. (I dont want that house. I want that house farther back.)à ¿Recuerdas esos dà as? (Do you remember those days?)à ¿Recuerdas aquellos dà as? (Do you remember those days long ago?) Items in a Series When two or more items are in a series, the demonstrative adjective must be used with each item. While in English we would say those dogs and cats, in Spanish we would say esos perros y esos gatos. Use of just one demonstrative adjective in this case, as in esos perros y gatos, would imply that were talking about animals that are a cross between a cat and a dog. Sample Sentences Using Demonstrative Adjectives Perseverancia: Pocos entienden el valor de esa palabra. (Perseverance: Few understand the value of that word.) Esta idea puede cambiar tu futuro. (This idea can change your future.) Siempre que veo la televisià ³n y veo a esos pobres nià ±os hambrientos en todo el mundo, no puedo evitar llorar. (Whenever I watch television and see those poor hungry children everywhere, I cant keep from crying.) Yo sabà a que era este mes pero no ese dà a. (I knew that it was this month but not that day.) Vuelvo a vivir aquellas experiencias que tuve hace muchos aà ±os. (Im going to relive those experiences I had many years ago.) Estas manos pueden construir una casa. (These hands can build a house.) Aquellos ojos azules irradiaban una luz que era casi tangible. (Those blue eyes radiated a light that was almost tangible.) Gracias por esa leccià ³n de vida. (Thank you for that lesson in life.) Esta persona no es mi amigo. (This person is not my friend.) Hay riesgos si abandonamos esas costumbres nuevas y olvida aquellas enseà ±anzas milenarias. (There are risks if we abandon those new customs and forget those traditional teachings.) Se llama radiogalaxia a aquella galaxia que irradia energà a con gran potencia en forma radioondas. (That galaxy that radiates powerful energy in the form of radio waves is called a radio galaxy.)à Aquel aà ±o descubrà que mi à ºnico rival no era ms que mis propias debilidades. (That day I discovered that my only enemy wasnt anything more than my own weaknesses.)

Entrepreneurial Marketing - Essay Example They also strive towards safeguarding the environmental safety by reducing the carbon print of the breweries and introducing various green technologies. These green technologies have earned them both local and international awards. The brewery can maintain a great sense of sustainability, community, and passion for the best ale. The recent industry trends report over the last five years produced by various independent bodies including SIBA indicates that there is a continuing success that is visible in the Ale sector with yearly growth and emerging categories often gaining their market share. One emerging market sector is in the growth of the 330ml packaged beer bottle. This is attracting a younger audience. Since Hobsons is in need of venturing into this market with a sub-brand, it requires ample market research and analysis. This paper seeks to fulfill that by developing a sub-brand that is not detrimental to the other brands of the brewery. It also seeks on the target audience and means of engaging them and marketing the product this new product in the market. The main consideration of this project is to come up with a sub- brand for Hobson brewery, which is not detrimental to the existing brand of the brewery. This is due to the emerging growth of the market for the 300 ml bottle of beer. This beer is attracting a younger audience of above eighteen years and considering that they make a high percentage of the total population in the area, tapping into this market is beneficial for the company. The brewery company has to come up with the best strategies to market and engage their target audience. They also aim at knowing what additional beer styles to create to maintain a competitive advantage.
